Michael Mertyn

Industria

Solo Exhibition
11 Nov 2009 - 29 Nov 2009

Michael Mertyn salvages objects from street refuse and building sites. The familiarity of these items makes his work, at first, appear an easy make - a simple cut and paste job. However, the essence of his talent lies not just in the sourcing of materials but the placement of these within the field. His acute attention to colour and graphical elements come into their own upon assembly and are furthered with imagery of urban construction and silhouette figures. These works challenge the true consciousness of our surrounds. Geographical positioning, demographics and gentrification are shaping, shifting and sorting us into an invented world high on the qualities of a 'manufactured' life.
