Continuing with the rhythms of urban life - its pace, stillness, urgency and calm - Matthew Rogers' recent paintings and prints meander between abstraction and figuration. Each image seeks to capture the immediate nature of movements, grain and texture of a precise moment; so brief, yet so complete with drama. The figures demonstrate the loose camaraderie of strangers in a mass that opens and closes instantaneously within their passage. Rogers also draws our attention to the shifting space between, the void from where someone has just stepped and the field surrounding the bodies as they move through space. |
