This new collection of works, by Chinese-born Huixuan Zhao, are in the Gongbi style, which dates back more than 2000 years. In keeping with the Gongbi tradition, Zhao's works are highly detailed and decorative. Working on silk, the artist applies watercolours using a traditional technique, with materials sourced directly from Beijing markets and sent to Zhao's home in Adelaide. The Gongbi style demands concentration, patience and precision, which imbues Zhao's watercolours with serenity and peacefulness. |
