the fruit and the figure

Melbourne: 7 May - 1 June, 2008

Murray Bird paints still life unlike any other. Distinctly different to the quiet, inanimate, stationary still lifes which most people are familiar with, Bird's subjects are anything but well-behaved. His unique style of painting produce with interesting compositional arrangement provides a strong narrative element; he is able to imbue delightfully human qualities into each object. In complimentary fashion, Bird incorporates figure paintings to stand alongside his still lifes.
He says he enjoys the challenge of the delicate emotional elements of figure work, the intimacy and atmospheric approach.
