These paintings are an intimate look into a personal world, tucked away in a suburban Australia. While these domestic scenes are highly familiar, Kuang seeks out the delicate poise between the subject and space to reveal harmonious arrangements of light and shade, the flat and the textured, the beautiful and the ordinary. Zai Kuang's work has been met with critical acclaim. He was a finalist in the 2007 and 2008 Archibald Prizes, and the 2007 Doug Moran Prize. |
